‘As the Artist, is part of the public, thus public art is for himself’

Thanks to Urban Art, artistic creation descends from its pedestal opening new situations and dialogues, thus creating a museum without walls, “in the open”.

Contemporary creation in public spaces establishes a rich exchange between urban planners, architects, landscapers, artists, designers, sociologists and the general public. The works installed in these spaces were designed for everyone; interested or not in art. Artists who exhibit in public spaces do so that their work is absorbed in the daily life of a city, actively participating in projects of urbanization and restructuration in public areas.

Public Art is an intellectual process, with unlimited experiences, that seeks the interaction of the citizen with the work of art of his time, without any hierarchical imposition between art and its environment. Marina da Gloria, that was completely revitalized for the Olympic Games, invited in 2016 for the first version of the project 'Marina Monumental - Art at Marina da Gloria' where the public enjoyed the sculptures along the pier, framed by one of the most incredible landscapes in the world: the Guanabara Bay with Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer on top of Corcovado, without forgetting, of course, the unique and powerful nature of Burle-Marx's gardens in Flamengo Park.

Visitors were able to interact with various artistic projects, such as installations, murals, performances and sound works, circulating in different spaces of the Marina, having the experience of being part of an impressive outdoor exhibition.

In such a context, the selected works accepted the challenge and found their place. This project thinks 'big' and proposes that the sculptures respond with harmony to its strong presence. This interaction with the carioca landscape offers surprise and rapture!
